Hi Everyone,

Just a quick reminder about this years Dinner and Dance. It's on Saturday  10th May at 18.30.

So far, despite posters being on the wall since January,  only 2 people have asked me and paid for tickets. I need to have final numbers and be paid in full by Saturday 3rd May. (Thats the Old Gits game) Please can you let me know as soon as possible if you want any and how many tickets you require. I could do without having to leave everything till the last minute!

Can you please also remind everyone else that you might see from the club and give them my numbers if they don't have them already. I'm a bit lacking in e-mail addresses too so if you have any that i haven't, please pass this on.

Just in case you don't have it already, this is my mobile number... 07768 388303. But you can call me on any of the other numbers below, e-mail at either address or catch me at the club. I'm usually there on Tuesday &  Thursday Evenings & Saturdays. You can even Fax me if you want!

So there really is no excuse for not letting me know. It's not like I'm hard to find!

Thanks very much

Chick

Upton upon Severn 5 Coventry Welsh 10

Coventry Welsh recorded an excellent win at Upton in their final away league fixture of the season. Playing on a heavy pitch in poor weather conditions the Welsh, despite having several players missing due to work commitments, began well and put pressure on the home line but were held out by some stern defence. Midway through the first half the Welsh forwards drove on from a lineout before releasing the ball to the backs who used the full width of the pitch to see winger Andy Rowlands outstrip the home defence to score a try in the corner which Luke Horan converted. Upton never let their heads down and came back at the start of the second half using their bigger pack to gain yardage and were rewarded when they drove over for a try. The Welsh began to use the deteriorating conditions to pin Upton back in their own half with some fine line kicking and the pressure finally told as Upton conceded one penalty too many and Luke Horan took his chance at the posts with an excellent penalty from out wide to seal the result. 29/3/08

Coventry Welsh 0 Alcester 17

Coventry Welsh could offer no excuses for a lethargic below par performance against Alcester. Despite having several good chances they were always second best to a disciplined and well motivated side who deserved their win.

Old Leamingtonians 8 Coventry Welsh 6

Coventry Welsh pressed their higher league opposition all the way in a tense semi final played at Barkers Butts ground. The Welsh strung some good passages of play together and only some good defence held them out before Luke Horan opened the scoring with a penalty. Old Leams fought back to level the score just before half time. The second half saw the defences of both sides nullify any attacks and it took a bit of luck and a lot of speed from the Old Leams winger to break the deadlock with a fine individual try in the clubhouse corner. The Welsh pinned their opposition in their own half for long periods and thought they should have been awarded a penalty try when foul play stopped them scoring an easy try. After another period of pressure Luke Horan slotted over a fine drop goal. In a tense last few minutes the Welsh had another penalty awarded but saw the ball drift past the upright much to the relief of Old Leams as the ref blew for full time.

Match reports for w/e 16/2/08

Harbury  15  Coventry Welsh  18

Coventry Welsh emerged as winners in a see saw battle against a strong Harbury side whose form belied their league position. The Welsh looked the stronger in the early exchanges and deserved their 13-0 lead with a try to Lee Ashford converted by Luke Horan to add to his two penalties. Harbury spent long periods camped in the Welsh half but some fine defence contained them before conceeding a good try to a jinking run by the Harbury scrum half. The second half started well for the Welsh and a storming run by Matt Carrier saw Lee Ashford once again on hand to take the telling pass for a try. Harbury came back strongly scoring another fine try to add to a penalty and running further kickable penalties to try for the win. The Welsh defence stood firm to the challenge to record another victory.

Coventry Welsh  2nds  10  Earlsdon  2nds  38

Coventry Welsh 2nds were no match for the speedy Earlsdon backs but worked hard to keep the score respectable and scored two tries themselves through Keiron McDonald and Mark Ellis.

Match report for w/e 9/2/08

Coventry Welsh 12  Rugby St. Andrews 20

Coventry Welsh pushed the league leaders all the way in a tight game that was only decided in the final few minutes. The Welsh took a 12-9 lead in the second half and kept the visitors camped in their own half for long periods but the Saints showed why they lead the league with some fine defence that held the Welsh at bay.The Saints took advantage of some indiscipline by the Welsh to take a 15-12 lead before a poor clearance saw their pacey winger score the decisive try.
